Went wandering around town on thu ( i really love wandering ^.^). My newest wandering buddy is Xinyi from my new job who coincidentally was from ahs!! I swear Singapore is wayyyy too small. I keep meeting people i know at my jobs =) Turns out we have quite a few common friends n we totally hit it off so we decided to go out together for the day.

First stop was Stamford House:

Which is a pretty sad place despite its nice name and exterior. I totally love the old colonial buildings and so i love this but inside is so gloomy since alot of shops are left empty and there just isn't much life in that place. I think it would totally rock if more indie or vintage shops moved in cos' that'll really brighten up the place. XY went photo crazy and whipped out the pro camera (not the digital kind) and took lotsa pics of the exterior since inside is strictly no phototaking (sians cos they have nice vintagey deco inside)

2nd stop: Armenian Church

I love the quaint little church that's singapore's oldest. It's pretty small n totally eerie since the sky was overcast and the place is totally deserted. There were bronze statues standing in various poses in the garden that gave me a little shock at first cos i thought got people =.= It's weird how churches always give the feeling of peace and serenity whenever i enter one and this one gave me goosebumps cos'
1) it's totally empty
2) it's really pretty even though it's old
3) the weird statues are seriously freaking me out
4) seeing the old tombstones in the gardens just made me feel really sad for no reason.

3rd stop: Freemasons Hall

OMG OMG OMG it's the Freemasons Hall!!! I didn't even KNOW we have freemasons in Singapore. If im a guy i'll definitely find a way to join the brotherhood. Im all into conspiracy theories and all things of old! I was poking my nose around the place and this angmoh guy came over and asked if i needed help, then HE OFFERED TO BRING US IN AND SHOW US AROUND. I think i nearly fainted from happiness. =D He brought us into their lounge and the restaurant there where the walls were decorated with Freemason regalia and old scripts and photos and art pieces. It was fantastic getting to enter their club. Freaking cool!! Pity he couldn't stay and talk much but he gave me a handbook of sorts =D I MET A REAL LIFE FREEMASON and he's so nice!!! total lurves~~

Here's a tiny excerpt from the handbook:

" The world has always been full of uncertainties, and life fraught with shades of grey. As such, Man needs ideals and principles that have been passed on through the wisdom of generations past, and that will continue to hold him in good stead in the future. Freemasonry exhorts the Principles of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth, which serve as both guiding light and moral anchor to its fraternity. Masons everywhere are inspired by the Ideals of Wisdom, Strength and Beauty. "

Oh, and Sir Stamford Raffles was a Freemason too!

4th Stop: Singapore Philatelic Museum

We were attracted by the huge FREE ADMISSION FOR STUDENTS sign n bluffed our way in LOL. It's just a stamp museum and was pretty educational though not that much fun. XY was pissed over why other countries had such nice red mailboxes while ours is so plain Haha. Due to the World Cup they had an exhibition room for soccer and there was a wall where kids can write their fave players. One dude wrote his grandfather and someone wrote Kangxi Emperor. Total laughs man!

After the museum it started pouring super heavily and we were starving so we walked to funan to makan pepper lunch. When we came out it was RAINING CATS AND DOGS LIKE THE SKY GONNA FALL DOWN so we walked to Peninsula Plaza AND I GOT MY NEW SHOES WET T.T Wasn't much to see and the place totally reeks so we walked back to Peninsula Shopping Mall IN THE RAIN AGAIN and the whole road was FREAKING FLOODED. They had really random shops selling sportswear at cheap prices and weird shops selling really random things. Im not gonna go back there man.

N so we wrapped up our outing at 5plus aft we went HMV to get me new earphones since i got tuition to teach at nite. Too bad we din get to go Peranakan Museum, the Substation(2 free exhibitions there now) and Fort Canning as planned. But still, it was a fab day out exploring places. =D

oh and i hate rainy days when im outside >.<
