Thanks to a fab fab senior i got to watch an NDP rehearsal show. He very kindly offered me 4 free tickets so i got jocelyn, amos and elmo to come along with me. Dear ger would rather watch her beloved taiwanese drama than watch ndp. Unbelievable.

I won't say im a loyal Sporean, but NDP sure gets me hyped up. Every year i make sure i watch the march past(my fave part) and i would admire the fireworks from the HDB flats. My old grandma's house at Eunos used to have a great view of the fireworks and the air display and as a kid i used to be super awed by that. So when i got the offer i immediately took it up!

It was a rainy day so it partially sucked because all of us had to wear raincoats. Doesn't help that the seats were really cramped at the Padang so it was hard to move about. N I HATE WET SHOES. Rain aside, it was a pretty good show. I watched my p5 NDP at the National Stadium so watching at the Padang was a different experience. The parade ground was smaller and closer to the stands so we get a better view of the performances.

First up, the march past got me and jocelyn all excited. She says she gonna get a bf wearing the white and blue uniforms, then she changed her target when i pointed out to her the regimental colors party. LOL Men in uniform look really good ^.^

The mobile column is pretty cool with more vehicles on display this year. Somehow i can't picture my dear army friends in those tanks. This year they gave better narration and explanation of the different sections of the army and the the vehicles they use and the functions. The 2 dudes got really excited when it came to Infantry & Artillery's turns cos they belong there. And i repeat, i really can't imagine them as real soldiers operating the cool machinery!

The aerial display totally rocks my socks! I've always had a major crush on air force pilots and this year's flypast was better than past years. There was the new F-15SG fighter jet and Gulfstream 550 AEW and the aerial formations was utter fab. Really wonder how much practice it takes to achieve such precision and skill. If it's me i think i will be puking in the plane from the dizzying manoeuvres. Pity they didn't show the parachute display for the rehearsal show=(

Then came the performances which i think are just ok. The light effects are fantastic at night, with special visuals casts on the ancient building in front(crap i forgot the name) and the ground. They played around with the lights this year which is great cos' it looks magical. BUT, just because it's a rehearsal ( not even the dress rehearsal) the performers weren't in costume and it looks sloppy when u see them wearing jeans and tee. =( I think the formations need some work done but otherwise i think it'll be a great show on the actual day.

The Finale: FIREWORKS!! I thought they'll save up on the fireworks since it's just a rehearsal but they didn't!! Brilliant, Brilliant Fireworks. Always loved them! It seems to be getting better each year and honestly seeing the fireworks light up the sky i felt like just grabbing someone and hugging him. Pity i looked to my side and saw elmo which destroyed the fleeting thought. LOL.

Love the NDP fun tote ^.^

Watching it live is seriously different from watching tv emotions-wise. I never thought myself as a hardcore patriot and i would jump at any overseas opportunity, but somehow NDP makes me real proud to be a Singaporean and i thought that the multimedia interviews part really struck a chord in my heart, seeing how overseas Singaporeans miss life back here and how our fellow citizens share the parts they love and hate about our country. We take things for granted now, but perhaps someday i'll learn to appreciate our tiny island more.

Colorful Floats with brill neon lights. Real dense drizzle though. The ground was all wet and shiny.

WHOO~~ MARCHPAST!! Yummy dudes=p

Sky turned dark and everyone took out the flag-clapper-torch thingy which looks real pretty at night. Esplanade was a beautiful backdrop too=)
